More Young People are Morbidly Obese

There are more and more young people aged 25 and younger who are morbidly obese, suffering from its complications and in danger of an early death, leading some professionals in the field criticizing society’s dismal failure at addressing the issue. Lack of exercise, junk foods, too much fructose and other sugars and largely sedentary lifestyle are some of the reasons why the weight of young people has skyrocketed.

Many of the people affected have found that they cannot lose enough weight through lifestyle changes and dieting alone and those who do lose weight often pile it back on due to the hormonal and metabolic changes that occur due to excess weight.

More than 70% of morbidly obese patients find that they are so heavy it interferes with their ability to do normal daily activities, like climbing the stairs or getting in and out of a bathtub.

Experts are so worried by this epidemic of obesity that they fear the NHS will become bankrupt due to the amount of money it spends on all the diseases that can ensue as a result.

Gastric band surgery is one way a severely affected person can lose weight and re-gain their health. An adjustable band is used to reduce the size of your stomach so you can only eat small portions of food. This usually leads to a long-term weight loss of 50-70%, a remission of diabetes and a reduction in other diseases.

Sanjay Agrawal, bariatric surgeon and star of the channel 4 show ‘Embarrassing Fat Bodies’, has extensive experience in performing weight loss procedures. For private gastric band surgery and expert care without long waiting lists, the London Obesity Clinic can help you take the first steps to health and be the person you really want to be.
